A New Enemy

When A New Day Begins...

Another Fight Awakens...

Chapter 18 - New Problems

"Morning Bells," Charlie said as he came down the stairs. He came into the kitchen and was taken by surprise at what he saw at the table: eggs, bacon, orange juice, toast and coffee. "Wow, you sure prepared a lot of food this morning Bella." Charlie sat down and immediately began taking one of each.

I laughed slightly and replied, "I woke up a bit early in a good mood, so I decided to make a proper breakfast." I sat down and took a bite out of some toast. I smiled as I saw Charlie stuffing his mouth with eggs and bacon. Before I knew it, most of the food was gone. I quickly put away the rest of the food and washed dishes. Charlie seemed full as he read the newspaper and drank his coffee.

I then noticed that it was already 7:20. I was going to be late!

Charlie glanced at the clock and was startled, "It's already 7:20?! He folded the newspaper, left it at the table and quickly grabbed his belt. "Gotta go Bells, thanks for the breakfast!"

As soon as I heard the cruiser speed away, there was a knock on the door. I quickly headed for the door and opened it. There a god-like creature stood and laughed slightly at my expression. "We're going to be late if you don't hurry up you know." he said.

"I know, wait a moment. Unless..you'll help?" I asked.

"Sure why not." Edward followed me into the kitchen and he quickly gathered up all the dishes. He grabbed the sponge before I could and began washing the dishes. I tried to rinse some of them out, but Edward had taken them away and rinsed them himself.

"Why won't you let me wash them myself?"

"Because I'm a little faster and we're going to be late." He chuckled slightly as he placed the dishes up in the cabinet. "There, done."

"Unfair. You don't have speed with everything you know."

"I can't wash dishes as fast as I could run, but I can go slightly faster and be more careful than a human."

"I'm careful," I said as I grabbed my jacket and opened the door. It was raining lightly so I placed mt hood up. I headed for the Volvo, slipping on the wet driveway. Before I could even hit the ground, Edward caught me and steadied me.

He chuckled as we began walking towards the Volvo again, "More clumsy than careful."

----------

I was really worried about going to lunch, since the new students were here. I had noticed earlier that the dark blue car I had seen before was there...which meant the new vampires were here today. I shuddered at the thought at what might happen...I hope that the new students don't come to lunch.

Just then my textbook was quickly flipped open. I looked over at Edward, but he continued to follow along in the lesson. "Umm... Miss Swan...Bella, please continue reading from where we left off." Mr. Banner said. I looked at the page that Edward opened the book at, there at the 2 paragraph was a pencil mark. "The Department of Energy (DOE) is sequencing underwater decomposers. Apparently these fungus-like organisms act much like bacteria in degrading organic matter..."

----------

"Hey Bella, are you coming to the fair in Port Angeles? Everyone was coming, and I thought that you..." Mike's voice faded to the background as I thought about everything. The new vampires, the new dangers, and Victoria. Is there a possibility that she is part oft his? That she sent the new vampires here to destroy me? "...So, do you want to come with me?"

I was confused at what Mike was asking, "To where?" I asked.

"To the fair. They have the rides, the carnival games, and the food. We're going Friday afternoon." he said.

"Friday...ummm..." I wasn't busy on Friday, but I didn't want to go. Instead of being rude, I immediately came up with am excuse. "Friday isn't a good day for me. I'm actually busy on that day. I have to run a few errands for Charlie and drive to Seattle."

"Can't you go and do it some other day? Like Saturday? Or Thursday?"

"No. The delivery comes in at Friday...and about Seattle, it's the last day of the sale at the store I'm going to. I wish I could come...but I'm too busy. Sorry." My excuse wasn't all a lie...sure I didn't need to go a sale in Seattle, but my dad is expecting a package from mom.

"Oh, okay then. Maybe some other time." The bell rang and Mike slowly stood and walked out of class. I walked out quickly, knowing that Edward would be waiting for me at the doorway.

I exited the class and there stood Edward leaning against the wall looking god-like as ever. "How was class?" he asked.

"Fine," I quickly replied.

"Do you really need to pick up a delivery? Or go to Seattle?" Edward scoffed slightly as he continued, "'Cause Mike isn't buying it. He thinks that you say that all the time."

"Well, I really do need to pick up a delivery...and even though there is no store in Seattle that has a sale that is ending...the pick up is in Seattle."

"Then our Friday is booked." he said with a smile.

We pushed open the cafeteria doors and the sound of chatter surrounded us. I grabbed a pizza and some tater tots, while Edward grabbed an apple. Both of us walked over where the rest of the Cullens were at. All of them were seated back at their regular table. I looked around, checking to see if the new students were here. I spotted them a table away from the Cullens. All of them looked calm, Anabell saw me looking towards them and she smiled. I quickly looked away and sat next to Alice.

"Bella, you're going to Seattle?" Alice asked.

"I-I am, but I never told you. I only told Edward." I said.

"I saw you driving there alone," she looked towards Edward with a serious look and he nodded. Alice turned back and faced me, "Why are you heading to Seattle?"

"I need to pick up a delivery. My mom didn't bother sending it to our address because there wasn't a postal service near our home. The closest was in Seattle and Port Angeles."

"Then why send it all the way to Seattle? Why not Port Angeles?"

"I called mom and asked her to send it to Seattle instead because I knew that everyone would want to go to the fair in Port Angeles, I would be bound to run into Mike or Jessica. I didn't want them to drag me with them to the fair."

"Oh, if I woul-" Alice stopped speaking as her eyes became blank. Edward became tense as he saw what Alice was seeing.

Then suddenly Edward spoke, "Bella, we need to go."

----------

I looked around the office while Edward spoke to the receptionist. "Make sure you look sick" Edward had said earlier. I slumped forward, holding my head like it was heavy. I looked down at the floor, as I tried to hear what Edward was saying. "She got a stomach ache during lunch, we thought that it was just a small thing, but as we were taking her to the Health office, her temperature rose. She has a fever and needs to get home. I'll drive her home personally, please excuse her from Gym."

The receptionist looked charmed by Edward, she stuttered as she spoke. "O-Of course. Shall, I excuse you as well?"

"Yes, though I'm sure I'll be fine." Edward said.

"Okay, you...you can take her home now."

Edward walked over to me and helped me to my feet. He quickly whispered in my ear, "look sick...dizzy." was all I heard. We moved forward, but I stumbled slightly.

"Get well soon Miss Swan." the receptionist said as we walked out of the office.

"We have to head out now. Everyone else is waiting for us in the parking lot." Edward said. We walked over to his Volvo. Emmett's jeep was there and so was Rosalie's convertible.

"Where are heading to and why so many cars?" I asked.

"We have to get you back home, to our house. Alice & Rosalie are going to Carlisle to tell me him to head home. While Emmett and Jasper are going to search for something."

"What's that something?"

He knew that I was bound to be curious, "I'll tell you later." He opened the passenger door for me and I slid on to the seat. "I'll be back he said as he shut the door. He walked over to everyone else and spoke. I looked back at the school and noticed someone under the cover of a tree. Her eyes were golden like the Cullens, she stood there staring at me. Her eyes glistened as she smiled. I quickly turned away and Edward opened the driver's side of the door, he sat down, quickly placing the car in reverse. "They got here faster than I thought." he said.

"Who? Who got here?" I frantically asked.

"Vampires that I should have told you about before." Edward sped out of the parking lot, along with the jeep and the convertible. I looked back again, catching a glimpse of the same girl, she smiled and disappeared.

----------

Esme had brought me to the dining room to as everyone else had talked about the new upcoming problem. "What's going on?" I asked.

Esme had a worried look in her face as she sat down next to me, "I'm sorry Bella, I want to tell you, but I would think that it'd be better if Edward or Carlisle told you."

"Bella?" Edward said, "Can you please come to the living room."

I stood and walked slowly to the living room, everyone acted like there was nothing wrong. Emmett was watching TV, Jasper & Alice were sitting on the couch together...even Rosalie looked like there was nothing wrong. "What's going on Edward?" I asked

"I should have discussed this with you a long time ago..." he paused as he walked me over to the couch. Jasper and Alice were already off the couch standing near Emmett. "There are even more things that you don't know about me...about all of us here. We have never wanted to bring this up for it might have troubled you more. Bella, there are a lot of things you don't know about our past...we all would love to tell you about it someday. In our past Bella, we...we weren't always the way we are now. We were different before we met you...and there were other vampires. So everyone in Forks was in more danger than now." Edward paused as he noticed the look on my face, "What's wrong?"

"Nothing...it's just that Jessica has mentioned this before. That instead of just only you Cullens, there were others like you. A-And that you guys always acted suspicious and more indifferent. Lauren and Jessica had gotten into a fight about it, they were saying that all of you seemed to look at everyone as your prey, but more than just the thirst...they said that you looked at them like they were your food..." I stopped as the room suddenly got quiet, Edward was quickly alert and shielded me, everyone else did the same, they surrounded me just like with James in the clearing before.

"Well, well well...so this is your precious Bella." a woman walked out of the shadows and into the light. She looked slightly familiar to me, I just didn't know where or when I saw her. Her black eyes  proved that she was thirsty, she smiled as she noticed my worry. "Hmmm...I still wonder on why you kept her. Before you wouldn't have been able to control yourself..." She took a step closer and everyone became more tense. She laughed as she saw their reaction. "So tense. That's not a way to greet an old friend."

Emmett seemed to have eased up a little, but I can still see that he was still careful not to let his guard down. "Friend?" he scoffed, "More like the enemy. You were one them. You b-"

"Emmett." Carlisle cautioned him, "Be careful on what you say."

"Still, I was your friend. It's not nice to be mean when I wanted to come by and check up on you. I was thinking of staying for a while bu-"

"You aren't welcome here." Edward growled in anger.

She chuckled slightly, "Really? Then what about everyone else? Do you remember all of us? We've been here all month, all week, everyday. You just might not have noticed. We even have new little 'helpers.' They've been keeping an eye out for your little Bella. You should thank me that I told them not to kill her. They wanted her blood so bad, that they just had to pay a visit. But then you came back unexpectedly and ruined their whole plan. Did your little Bella even tell you who they were? She has been talking with them and hanging out with them after all."

I looked down, I wanted to speak up, to say that I never did those things. But during Mike's party...I shut my eyes as I felt the tears coming, I didn't tell them. Now it's all my fault. Edward held me close as the tears streamed down my face. e tried to wipe them off my cheeks, but the tears wouldn't stop.

"What a fragile little human. Crying in the middle of an-almost-fight. Just typical." She began to walk backwards toward the door, "Well, hope to see you again later." She smiled and was gone.

"Bella, love. What's the matter? You don't need to cry." Edward wiped off more of tears on mt face. "We're here to protect you, I'm here to protect you."

"I'm so sorry...I-I didn't tell you earlier about them. You probably would have known a head of time about this if I were able to help." I hugged Edward tighter, "If o-only I-I had told you their names, a-and about everything, then we wouldn't have this problem."

"Bella, there's no problem. We knew about this for quite a while. I knew all their names. I was able to read one of their minds. She was smart enough to try and think about something else, but then she began thinking about their little plan. That's why in the cafeteria they began staring at us. It's probably because one of them found out I had knew about the whole plan. Now you know what that sound was, one of the guys at their table smashed a milk carton and tossed it away before anyone noticed. I'm the one that should be saying sorry for not telling all this earlier. We just didn't want you to worry more."

"But still I'm sorry. I shouldn't have kept it from you."

"It's okay. Now, come with me upstairs with everyone. It's about time we told you everything."
